Introducing Sunrise Safe Rides, a new shared ride, demand-response service designed to provide safe and affordable transportation for anyone over the age of 16 within the GCTD service area.

Sunrise Safe Rides (NEW)

  • Hours: 4:30 AM - 7:00 AM
  • Ideal for: Early morning commuters, especially those in hospitality and healthcare fields
  • Purpose: Ensure a safe, reliable, and cost-effective way to get to work or other destinations during early morning hours.

Late Night Safe Rides

  • Hours: 7:00 PM - 12:00 AM
  • Ideal for: Night-time commuters, particularly those finishing late shifts in hospitality and healthcare
  • Purpose: Provide a secure, economical transportation option during late-night hours.

Service Features

  • Operated using GCTD’s existing GO ACCESS paratransit vehicles
  • Some vehicles equipped with bike racks for added convenience
  • All vehicles updated with LED dashboard lights for easy identification
  • Masks are optional for all passengers

What are the hours of Sunrise/Late Night Safe Rides (LNSR)?

Sunrise (SSR) service is from 4:30 AM to 7 AM and Late-Night Safe Rides (LNSR) service is from 7 PM to 12 AM, seven days a week. This service is open to all for any purpose and is available for you. To find out more information please talk to a member of our team at 805-485-2319.

What is the service area for the Sunrise/LNSR service?

Sunrise & LNSR will take you anywhere a GCTD bus goes.  Please refer to the GCTD system map.

The service area covers the GCTD normal fixed route service area. This includes the cities of Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura, Ojai, and unincorporated areas in between these cities

What are the age requirements to use Sunrise/LNSR service?

The rider must be 16 years of age or older to make a reservation.   Children under age 16 may ride when accompanied by an adult. Fares are required for each passenger.

How can I pay for this service?

The fare is $5.00 each way. This can be paid by cash or by e-fare using the Token Transit app. The Token Transit APP can be easily downloaded on Android or IOS smartphones.

Can I transport my bike?

Yes, bike racks are installed on some of our vehicles. When making the reservation please

inform the staff so both you and your bike are accommodated.

How will I recognize my Sunrise/LNSR vehicle?

We are using the same vehicles that serve our GO ACCESS customers for both Sunrise and LNSR. There will be a light in the dashboard that says, “LATE NIGHT”.

Will there be other passengers on board?

Yes, there may be others on board. Sunrise/LNSR is a ride share (similar to a carpool).  On most trips the driver may be picking up or dropping off passengers along the way to your destination, similar to riding a bus with stops along the way

How long do I have to wait for a pickup?

Wait times are generally up to fifteen minutes after scheduled pick-up time

Can I use my smartphone to reserve a trip?

Currently we do not have an APP that allows the passenger to reserve trips.   Passengers may call a day in advance and up to 1 hour in advance to book trips.  Reservations may be booked by calling 805-485-2319.

What is the cost if I am a Senior, ADA, or youth passenger?

The fare for everyone is $ 5.00/passenger each way. ADA Certified and Seniors over 65+ pay $4.00/passenger each way.

What if I am traveling with a service animal?

Service animals are always welcome, as required by law. Please advise reservations if you are traveling with a service animal when booking your trip.  In compliance with Federal regulations, all service animals must be under the voice control of their owner.

What if my plans change and I need to cancel or no show for a trip?

If you no longer need a ride or your plans change, please let us know as soon as possible by calling 805-485-2319

What if I have comments, concerns, or questions about Sunrise/LNSR?

Is this service to replace bus service?

This service is meant to supplement our fixed bus route service and to ensure a quick, safe and affordable ride to all members of our community in the late evening hours.

What is Sunrise/LNSR policy for car seats?

In compliance with California law, all passengers under age 8 must ride in an appropriate Child Restraint System (CRS), such as a safety seat or booster; and all passengers under age 2 must ride in an appropriate rear-facing safety seat. Caregivers must provide an appropriate safety seat and be able to install the equipment in the vehicle. Drivers can provide information about LATCH attachment points, however, they cannot assist caregivers with equipment installation.

How long has Sunrise/LNSR been around?

LNSR launched services in May 2021. The NEW Sunrise Safe Rides launched July 2024.

Why was Surnrise/LNSR started?

This temporary demonstration service was conceived to assist essential workers in late evening travel to/from employment. However, this service is available to anyone for any purpose who need transportation early morning or late at night in our service area.

How is Sunrise/LNSR ensuring vehicles are cleaned and sanitized?

After every drop off, our drivers sanitize seats and high touch areas.

Gold Coast Transit District (GCTD) is committed to ensuring the safe transportation options while adhering to local and state public health guidelines. Passengers are encouraged to wear face masks.
